INCIDENT: To Craven Cottage where Fulham beat Hull, which came despite a red card to Ryan Sessegnon in the 94th minute after his studs caught the calf of Hull's Robinio Vaz. DERMOT SAYS: "I saw one of these last season with Van Dijk against Tottenham [on Simons], but the difference here is Sessegnon had him in his sights for a long time."
He can't win that ball because the player [Vaz] has been really clever and got himself between him and the ball. He goes down his card with his studs so it's inevitable that he gets a red card." JAY BOTHROYD SAYS: "I know Ryan, he's not the type of player that's going to try and hurt someone.
He's tried to put his foot down and he's mis-timed wherever he's putting his foot and he's stepped on the back of Vaz's Achilles." But when you show it slowly, you think it's a terrible challenge." TIM SHERWOOD SAYS: "I think it's harsh. When you slow it down, he's got his studs on his calf, but if we're talking about consistency, he has to send him off.
INCIDENT: Leeds against Manchester United was a feisty affair as Darren England tried to let the game flow at Elland Road. Gabriel Gudmundsson was given a yellow card for a challenge on Andrey Santos, but could it have been a red? DERMOT SAYS: I can only try and second guess the referee, it is not a nice tackle, but I can only assume that because he was so close, he has not got the speed and intensity.
It is up there on his Achilles and if you make that challenge, you are going to run the risk of a red card all the time. JAY BOTHROYD SAYS: That would be a yellow card. He has not intentionally tried to do that, he is trying to change direction, he is too slow to it to put his foot down and change direction and he has put his foot on the back of his Achilles, but I would not call that a tackle.
If they had given him a straight red for that, I would say that is unfortunate.
INCIDENT: EthanAmpadu appealed for a penalty when he was brought down by Harry Maguire after a corner. Maguire has his arm round him but VAR did check and clear the incident.DERMOT SAYS: "They tangle up together. The No5 for Leeds also grabs Maguire so he brings him back to bring his teammate down. All in all, play on."
INCIDENT: Was Palmer lucky not to get a second yellow card in second-half stoppage time? DERMOT SAYS: "He is chasing the ball, he goes in - does he whack him? I am not so sure, he catches him and if we give a yellow card for every bit of physical contact, we are going to sanitise the game."
TIM SAYS: "When the full back is clearing the ball up the line, when a striker comes across, nine times out of 10 it is a yellow card and it should have been then."
INCIDENT: At St James' Park, Sven Botman was booked along with Joelinton by Jarred Gillett in the same sequence of play after Botman challenged Nicolas Jackson. There was a VAR review but it was not upgraded to a red card. DERMOT SAYS: "I think it's a red card. It's got everything for a red card tackle - it's got speed, intensity, he scissors him."
I also think if the referee chose to, he could have avoided that. The Joelinton tackle is a yellow card and he gets one quite rightly." But if you penalise that, hit the whistle and yellow card, the second one doesn't happen. There is a reasonable amount of time between the two. "There's the speed he comes at, the distance he travels, the fact that he has maximum intensity."
JAY BOTHROYD SAYS: "That and the Joelinton challenge are out of frustration because Aston Villa are playing really well." Botman is more violent conduct than a headbutt [from Yehor Yarmoliuk]. He could have broken his leg. That's pins and plates in your leg is his shin [Jackson's] is on the floor."
INCIDENT: During the game, a free-kick was given to Everton, but Cole Palmer, who was booked for dissent later in the game, booted the ball high into the air, but was not given a yellow card for time-wasting. DERMOT SAYS: "The argument is he's kicking the ball back to where it should be because the game stopped for a free kick on the edge of the area, so he's kicking it back to Jordan Pickford."
But if he gets a yellow card, he's not going to have much argument whatsoever." I didn't say it wasn't a yellow card. If you do that, you run such a risk and how you get away with that, I don't know." JAY BOTHROYD SAYS: "I've seen people throw the ball up in the air and get yellow cards. He's launched the ball up in the air about 40 yards but because it's gone back to where it was, it's not a yellow card?"
That's definitely a yellow. There's no doubt about that."
INCIDENT: Things almost boiled over when Everton's Harrison Armstrong dived in on Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong. Paul Tierney awarded Armstrong a yellow card, but the Chelsea players felt the punishment should have been stronger.
DERMOT SAYS: "He is lucky he did not catch him, he catches him with his shin rather than his studs - if you catch someone with your studs and a straight leg, you are going to get sent off. If you are lucky like he is, you get a little bit of leeway when you catch him with his shin."
JAY BOTHROYD SAYS: "The way the game is today, I understand that and when I saw that at full pace, I thought great challenge. "What was interesting is Acheampong got straight back up and carried on playing, so in his mind he was thinking that was a tough, but good challenge." If he thought he was trying to hurt him, he would be rolling around."
TIM SAYS: "You cannot take that out of that boy's game and Moyes said it afterwards, everyone loves a tackle like that apart from the referees at the moment."
INCIDENT: The big talking point from the Hill Dickinson Stadium came in the first-half. Chelsea's Morgan Rogers was already on a yellow when he went into a tackle with Everton's James Garner, but was not shown another card. Mike Dean said minimum a yellow card on Soccer Saturday which would have meant Rogers was sent off. DERMOT SAYS: "He's lucky the referee didn't give a free kick.
If you look at the outcome, the referee plays on. Because he does that, the dilemma then for VAR is whether it's a second yellow, but he can't go for that." Is it enough for a red? That's his [VAR's] balance. If the referee hasn't given a foul, it takes the VAR out of the equation." I think it's on the threshold [of a straight red card] and once it's there, that's the dilemma of this second yellow card."
There is a damning angle where you see him leap into it, so that alone would send warning bells into the referee's head." But the referee chose to play on. He didn't think it was a foul." Being a foul isn't enough. The linesman also made a good point that they both lunged and that's the other thing - who is the real guilty party?"
JAY BOTHROYD SAYS: "When I watched at a normal speed, I thought it was a 50/50 challenge. They've both committed, they're both going in for it." I think it is a red card and Rogers is lucky." TIM SHERWOOD SAYS: "He could've broken his leg. It's a poor challenge. That's a straight red card."
INCIDENT: There were also a couple of penalty shouts from Brentford vs Liverpool too. Just before Yehor Yarmoliuk's red card, Liverpool had a penalty overturned by the VAR. DERMOT SAYS: "When you think that without VAR we would have had a red card not given and a penalty given incorrectly."
The clue is the ball, for me the defender has got to have got to the ball, watch the distance it has travelled and the direction, if MacAllister had got that ball, it is going to go forward." I went on my instinct and the travel of the ball is the total opposite of if MacAllister had got it, ie he had with his foot raised, it would have gone forward."
But the fact it has gone the other way tells me he has not touched it." JAY BOTHROYD SAYS: "It is the correct decision, the referee [John Brooks] was literally about four yards away, how can he not see he has got the ball there? I do not understand why he cannot see it, you can see the ball is changing direction, but they got it right." Florian Wirtz felt some contact from Yarmoliuk in the first half."
DERMOT SAYS: "He [Wirtz] spins off and feels the defender, the ball is running away and he is quiet happy to go down, but it is not a penalty." JAY BOTHROYD SAYS: "He understands the ball is getting away from him, he is not going to get back on to that ball and he has tried to make the most of it and win a penalty."
Then it was Igor Thiago's turn to appeal as Brentford chased an equaliser after contact from Jeremy Jacquet." DERMOT SAYS: "It is contact from both, they are both grabbing each other - why take sides when one is pushing and one is pulling? Just let it go..." TIM SAYS: "Six of one, half a dozen of another."
