Bram: No, all it does is delay the inevitable by a couple of weeks, Carrick ain’t good enough, players aren’t good enough, club structure isn’t good enough!
Man Utd boss Michael Carrick: "I haven't got any more news on Carlos at this stage. It's his hamstring, so we'll just have to assess what that looks like. Initially it doesn't look great. Timelines I haven't got much more to give you."
Jamie Carragher speaking on CBS Sports:"There are only two real giants, in managerial terms, for Man Utd, going back to Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson." What we're seeing right now with Man Utd struggling with managers is what we saw in the 70s and early 80s. So it's nothing new, and they've tried everything."
For Man Utd to get back on track, they employed a guy who went on to be arguably the greatest manager of all time." It's an absolute giant of a club, not just in English football, but in world football - and nobody seems to be able to get it right." Whether it's the pressure, the expectancy, the style of football, I don't know what it is because no other club is like it."
Bayern Munich will have lots of managers who've had success, so will Real Madrid, so will Barcelona, so will Liverpool. Nobody else has this problem except Man Utd." And it's not just a now problem. It's no coincidence that before Ferguson it was a struggle, and as soon as he left that club, it continued to be a real struggle."
It can't just be that a manager is going to get them back to the top; you almost feel this manager is going to have to be a legendary figure, not just a football guy. A figurehead, a force of personality." When I think of managers like that now - and of course this would never happen - but you think of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. That was more than a manager."
I don't feel like Man Utd will just get a manager and it's going to work. It almost feels like this manager has to be special - and you need to be special to manage the size and stature of Man Utd as a club."
Man Utd boss Michael Carrick speaking on the impact of Shea Lacey with his assist for the winning goal against Roma:“Again, not going too over the top, but at the same time, absolutely delighted for Shea. We love him to bits. He is a great young man.
“He is desperate to do well, he has got great ability, so in terms of coming inside and finding a pass, that is not surprising actually, he has got that little glint in his eyes, he plays with a bit of mischief if you like. “So it is always lovely to have that, but I was just as happy seeing him defending as a right-back when we needed that. I was just as pleased to see him do that on the defensive side."
I think he gave everybody a bit of a lift coming on the pitch and it was fantastic to see."
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick is refusing to get carried away with his side's comeback victory over Roma in the Champions League. A Bruno Fernandes penalty and late double from Matheus Cunha saw the Red Devils overturn an early two-goal deficit to secure their first win in 10 matches.
The result could prove to be a pivotal turning point for Carrick and his tenure, which has been hanging on by a thread, but he refused to jump to any conclusions on what it could mean for his future. “Proud of a lot of people actually, proud of the players, and they deserve a lot of credit for pulling through that in a tough situation," Carrick said in his post-match press conference.
“And for the supporters, you know, to be there, they were desperate for us to give them something they could get their teeth into. “I think it is really important for the players to know what this place can do. “I am not getting too carried away with things, but it is an important night.”
The top stories and transfer rumours from Wednesday's newspapers...
Wayne Rooney says Michael Carrick "deserves a lot of credit" for sparking a second-half comeback for Manchester United against Roma. United trailed by two goals at the break before a penalty from Bruno Fernandes and a double from Matheus Cunha snapped a run of nine games without a win."
I think Michael Carrick deserves a lot of credit as well, because if you were in his shoes you are thinking how can I change this around." Whatever he said to the team at half-time got them on the front foot and gave them the belief that they could win the game." You felt it, you could feel that they could win the game, everyone was together."
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes speaking with Amazon Prime after 3-2 win over Roma:"No, we don't need to save anyone's job." The club needed that win, the players needed that win. It's something that we needed as a group of players together with the staff." We've been working so hard to get out of this situation altogether.
It's been tough, there's been a lot of speculation in the media, a lot of lies around many things that have happened in this club. Between me and the manager, that we had cleared the air, then after, nothing of that happened." The manager took a decision of putting myself on the bench because I wasn't performing at that level. Everyone felt that it was a punishment for the words that I had. If it was, it was right.
"The manager is the one that makes the decisions. I have to accept them, I have to go forward with that. It doesn't change the belief I have in the manager, in the staff and every player that is in this club." It doesn't change my aim to win every game that I have ahead of me. "It should be [a turning point]."
